The Atari legend is making a comeback!
Atari continues to bring its iconic 1980s consoles back to the shelves with modern updates. In this vein, the company has introduced the new Atari 7800 Plus. The refreshed version of the console, originally released in 1986, is returning with hundreds of games.
Atari 7800 Plus will launch at $130
The Atari 7800 Plus is set to hit the market this winter. According to Atari, it will be available for pre-order starting at $130. The 7800 Plus will be sold as a much smaller version of the original console, equipped with an HDMI port.
Players will be able to enjoy their Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridge collections in widescreen format. Additionally, those who prefer can also play in the 4:3 aspect ratio. Furthermore, Atari has introduced new wireless controllers for both the 7800 Plus and the 2600 Plus.
The controllers, available as the CX40 Plus joystick and the CX78 Plus gamepad, are priced at $35. These controllers maintain the same design as the original versions and can be connected to a PC via USB.
The company has also announced new games specifically designed for the 7800 Plus and 2600 Plus. Each retro-inspired game will come on its own cartridge with a printed manual and will be sold individually for $30. The games include Caverns of Mars, The Epyx Game Collection, The M Network Collection, and RealSports Collection.
While many users have had the chance to experience Atari through emulators, the new console will allow them to play the old games in a much more optimized way. It remains unclear if this console, which makes Atari’s 8-bit era more accessible, will be available in our country.
