One of Pixar’s most beloved series, Toy Story, is gearing up for its return with a 5th film. Toy Story 5 will feature our old friends Woody and Buzz Lightyear facing their biggest threats yet in an all-new adventure.
Pixar has once again excited fans of the series with Toy Story 5. According to announcements made at the D23 event, the new film will focus on the toys’ battle against technology. With modern children increasingly turning to tablets and smart devices, the toys find themselves in an existential crisis. In the film, Woody and his team will struggle with the fact that children are no longer as interested in toys as they once were.
However, technology isn’t the only threat the toys will face. According to statements made during the D23 panel, an army of evil versions of Buzz Lightyear will also play a major role in the film. This army will consist of malfunctioning and dangerous copies of the original Buzz Lightyear. This new enemy will pose a significant danger in the toys’ fight for survival. Considering the trouble caused by Buzz’s different modes in Toy Story 2 and 3, it seems Pixar has decided to fully explore this concept.
While some fans have concerns, Pixar’s decision to clearly showcase Buzz Lightyear’s darker side could bring a fresh twist to the series. Although we’ve seen Buzz’s bad modes before, this time, Pixar is expected to fully focus on this storyline.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2026, bringing the battle between classic toys and the new generation of children to the screen. Fans are already eagerly awaiting the release of Toy Story 5.
