Super Mario 3D All-Stars Review! Memories, Memories…
Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which we see as a collection of the best Super Mario games ever, was released a few years ago. Before diving into the details of our Super Mario 3D All-Stars review, I want to emphasize how much I love the games included in this package. One of them is a game I can consider as part of my childhood and holds many memories for me. Of course, the others also have their memories, but this one stands out much more for me.
What does Super Mario 3D All-Stars offer?
Super Mario 3D All-Stars actually consists of 3 games combined into one package. We can call it a bundle of 3 legendary games. This package includes Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Each of these has been revised and included in this package for us gamers. The even better part is that all of them perform smoothly and well on the Nintendo Switch console.
Let’s start with Super Mario 64. My childhood was spent with this game. Really. The first console we got at home was the Nintendo 64, and I played every classic Nintendo 64 game without exception. Super Mario 64 was one of these games, and I still remember where most of the stars in the game were located. Because of this, I didn’t have trouble playing; I easily collected the stars and moved on.
However, I had a small issue with the controls of Mario. I don’t remember how it was on the Nintendo 64, but I don’t recall Mario spinning around to turn back. Maybe I’ve forgotten, or it was a design flaw from the beginning, but I think it was a detail that could have been fixed in this version. Just because of this, I struggled and even failed in solving some puzzles. Other than that, I didn’t experience any performance issues in the game, and everything proceeded smoothly.
Super Mario Sunshine?
As for Super Mario Sunshine, everything still reminds me of my Nintendo Gamecube days. I bought the Nintendo Gamecube around 2006-2007 if I’m not mistaken, and it was a special limited edition Resident Evil 4 console. Super Mario Sunshine was one of the first games I got for the console. As soon as I got it, I played it day and night.
In terms of performance, I didn’t encounter any issues with Super Mario Sunshine in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars package. If there were any, they didn’t come my way, so to speak. I can still fly around and solve puzzles with various fun moves to collect stars. To be honest, I’ve missed the warm atmosphere it gave me back then.
When I played it back then, sometimes I felt like the screen brightness was dimming. That feeling is still the same and hasn’t changed. It was nice to see that even this detail remained. I enjoyed the game in HD quality, which used to consume a lot of my time.
Super Mario Galaxy?
Released in 2007, Super Mario Galaxy has been the game I played the most in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars package so far. For some reason, even though I played it on the Nintendo Wii, I still think it has a very sweet and enjoyable gameplay. It still captivates me. Perhaps it’s due to a longing for high-quality platform games, but I’m currently playing it.
As you know, the Nintendo Wii had the Wii Motion system. This allowed you to use the controller you held up to the screen somewhat like a mouse. In Super Mario Galaxy, this mouse feature was used extensively. They managed to integrate this system into the Nintendo Switch version of the game in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars package, and I found it quite successful in this game.
There is one more thing I can say about this integrated feature. If you have issues with this mouse feature while playing with the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con controllers, you can reset it. When you reset, you can go about your business. If the controls feel weird, you can reset them again and continue. You can repeat this as many times as needed until it feels right or until you get used to it. Alternatively, you can even play without using it; it’s up to you.
Does Super Mario 3D All-Stars have any other content?
Super Mario 3D All-Stars does not include any other games besides Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy, yes. But don’t think that the only content in it is these 3 games. Along with these games, the package also offers the most beloved music from the games.
I would like to mention that there are a total of 175 tracks from all 3 games in this package. You can listen to them as you wish. Being able to sit back and listen to the favorite songs from Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy at any time was a nice detail for me.
What is the conclusion of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars review?
Overall, I can say that the review result of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars package is excellent. Although old-generation players have played, experienced, and loved these games, I believe they are also titles that new-generation players should experience. It is a nice event that the Nintendo team has offered this opportunity to new-generation players with the Super Mario 3D All-Stars package.
Before finishing my Super Mario 3D All-Stars review, I want to mention that I was moved while playing Super Mario 64. The days when I called my father for help when I couldn’t do something came back to my mind. So, thank you, Nintendo. Returning to the review result of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, I think it is a must-have for everyone who has a Nintendo Switch at home. Because it has 3 amazing games and these games are known from lists of the greatest games ever. Get it and enjoy.
