If you listen to a TV program through normal TV speakers or a 2.1 sound system, you will only hear the sound from the front. However, if you are watching in Dolby Atmos mode with speakers that have this feature, you will feel that the sound is directly above your head as the helicopter flies overhead. This will transfer the sound of the flight to the rear speakers and reduce the sound amplitude as you approach the rear scene.
Where Can Dolby Atmos Used?
To maximize the use of Dolby Atmos, it is recommended to use as many compatible speakers as possible. A movie theater, for example, is one of the most notable applications for a full Dolby Atmos experience, typically using all 64 speakers.
Fortunately, it is also possible to experience Dolby Atmos at home with less complex systems. For Dolby Atmos to work at home, a Visual Audio Receiver (AVR) is required. The AVR automatically detects information about nearby speakers, such as type and location.
Currently, Dolby Atmos for home theaters is limited to a maximum of 34 speakers. This means that the sound may not be as clear and crisp as in a movie theater. However, this does not mean that you need all 34 speakers to enjoy a movie. In fact, Dolby recommends a minimum of four speakers to achieve a basic home theater experience. There are also numerous options for Dolby Atmos-compatible soundbars that can provide the same experience at a lower price. Today, soundbars can offer Dolby Atmos support without the need for dozens of speakers.
On the other hand, Dolby Atmos is also used for mobile devices, but in a different way. You can experience a headphone-like experience from smartphones in the palm of your hand.
