Google has released the first developer preview of Android 15 to give an idea of what we can expect from the next version of Android. The stable version is expected to be released later this year. So what’s new in Android 15 Developer Preview 1? Let’s take a look at the details.

What you can expect with Android 15?

Google has explicitly stated that Android 15 will improve device privacy and security. Apps can utilize premium device hardware, including high-end camera capabilities, powerful graphics processors, stunning displays, and artificial intelligence (AI) processing.

Privacy and Security Enhancements

  • Google intends to raise Android Ad Services to extension level 10 by integrating the latest version of the Privacy Sandbox into it.
  • Android 14 extensions integrate with Android 15’s Health Connect, a secure and centralized platform for managing and sharing health and fitness data.
  • Android 15’s FileIntegrityManager includes new APIs that leverage the power of the fs-verity function in the Linux kernel.
  • Google introduces support for partial screen sharing, which allows users to share or record just a single app window instead of the entire device screen.

Hardware and performance improvements

  • It introduces new enhancements for better control over camera hardware.
  • Extends UMP support for virtual MIDI applications.

Android 15 Supported devices

Currently only Google devices support for Android 15 Preview. Supported devices include:

  • Pixel 8 Pro Pixel 8 Pixel Fold Pixel Tablet
  • Pixel 7 Pro Pixel 7 Pixel 7a
  • Pixel 6 Pro Pixel 6 and Pixel 6a.
